31. what you call と so-called の違い
　○He has had no regular education ; he is what you call a self-made man.　
　　　　彼は正規の教育を受けなかった。あれがいわゆる「自力で仕上げた男」である。

46. such ~ as, such ~ that　と言う表現　
　○ Do not trust such men as praise you to your face. 　面と向かって人を褒める人は油断がならないよ　　
　● He is not sucha fool that no one will keep company with him. 彼はバカだからだれも交際する人がいない

32. what one is 今日あるのは　と言う表現　
　○Coal and iron made England what she is.　英国の今日あるのは石炭と鉄との賜物である 47. not so much ~ as　と　not so much as　の　相違

49. so much, so many　と言う表現
　○ Apple are sold at so much a piece. リンゴがひとついくらで売買される　　
　● Apples are sold at so many for a hundred yen. 　リンゴが百円でいくつで売買される

35. AとBの関係は、CとDの関係と同じ　という言い方　
　○ Leaves are to the plant, what lungs are to the animal.　葉の植物に対する関係は、肺の動物に対する関係と同じことだ 50. like so many, as so many　という表現
　○ They worked hard like so many ants.　彼らはさながら蟻の用にせっせと働いた

36. As...., so...の呼応　As you sow, so will you reap.の解析　
　○As the lion is king of beasts, so is the eagle king of birds.　獅子は獣類の王、鷲は鳥類の王 51. 同一の形容詞、副詞などの反復を避けるため so を用いる
　○ It was very cold last evening - so much so that I could not stir out of doors. 　
　　　　夕べはたいへん寒かった - - - 戸外に出られないほどだった

　○ It is in studying as in eating ; he who does it gets the benefits, and not he who sees it done.

38. as ~ as any, as ~ as ever, the + 最上級 + that ever　という表現　
　○ He is as brave as any man alive. 彼は世にも稀な勇者だ。　
　● He is as brave a man as ever breathed. 古今無双（ここんむそう）の勇者だ　
　◎ He is the bravest man that ever lived. 古今未曾有の勇者だ 53. ever so = very, 譲歩を表す副詞節の中で使用されるever so --- = however　という表現
　○ He has ever so many children. 彼はいくら子供がいるのかしれないほどたくさんいる。　
　● Home is home, be it ever so homely.　どんなにみすぼらしくても家はやはり家 - - - - 故郷に勝る所はない

39. in the world, on earth　という表現　
　○ Who int the world are you?　　一体全体お前は誰だ。　
　● He had not a penny in the world.　　彼はびた一文持っていなかった　
　◎ The greatest naval power on earth.　　世界第一の海軍国 54. So I am　と　So am I　の　ちがい
　○ You seem to be a physician --- So I am. 　あなたは医師のようですね。仰せの通り医師です。
　● I am a physician. - - - So (also) am I.　私は医師です。私も医師です

40. something of a layer（法律を少しは知っている）と言う表現　　
　○He is something o a lawyer. 　彼は法律も少しは知っている
55. 接続詞 before の妙訳　
　○I had waited an hour before he appeared. 　1時間も待ってから漸く彼が来た

41. as long as, so long as と言う表現　　
　○You shall want for nothing as long as I live.　私の生きている間はお前たちに不自由はさせない　　
　● Any book will do, so long as it is interesuting.　面白くさえあればどんな本でもよろしい
56. not ~ long before --- 　長いこと ------ しないうちに、とうい妙訳　
　○I had not waited long before he appeared. 　長いこと待たないうちに彼がやって来た

42. so ~ as to と so as to　と言う表現　
　○ I got up so early as to be in time for the express.　私は早く起きたから急行に間に合った　　
　● I got up early so as to be in time for the express.　私は急行に間に合うように早く起きた

57. ～するや否や、～すると同時に、という表現
　○We had scarcely got on shore when it began to blow hard. 　我々が上陸するかしないうちに風がひどく吹き出した。
　●We had no sooner got on shore than it began to blow hard.　我々が上陸すると同時に風がひどく吹き出した。　
　◎As soon as we got on shore it began to blow hard.　我々が上陸するや否や風がひどく吹き出した

43. so ~ that　と　so that　という表現　
　○ I got up so early that I was in time for the express.　　早く起きたから急行に間に合った．
　● I got up early (so) that I might be in time for the express. 　急行に間に合うように早く起きた
58. before long（近いうちに）という表現　
　○ I shall see him before long. 私は近いうちに彼に会います

44. lest という that と同じ意味の接続詞の用法
　○ I worked hard (for fear) lest I should fail.　
　● I worked hard for fear (lest) I may fail.　　私は失敗するといけないから勉強する 59. not ~ till - - - ：- - - の時に初めて～　という表現　
　○People do not know the blessing health till they lose it.　健康を失ってはじめて健康の有り難さを知る

45. have + the + 抽象名詞 + 不定詞　と言う表現　
　○ He had the kindness to show me the way. 　
　●He was so kind as to show me the way. 彼は親切にも道案内をしてくれた 60. 命令形　＋　and, or　　そうすれば・・・、さもなければ・・・・　と言う表現
